President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday the war raging across much of the Middle East must be stopped before it expands further and engulfs the region, warning of greater loss of life, destruction and economic costs if the conflict continues.

He said Türkiye was continuing efforts to return to the negotiating table and revive diplomacy. "We are patiently continuing efforts to return to the negotiating table and revive diplomacy," he said.

"This war must be stopped before it becomes bigger and completely engulfs the region in flames," Erdogan said, adding that if the conflict continued, "there will be more loss of life and property, and the cost to the global economy will increase even further."

He also said the war must be halted before it throws the entire region into flames and said giving diplomacy a chance could make that possible.

Erdogan says Türkiye is acting cautiously

Erdogan said Türkiye was speaking very carefully because of the sensitivity of the current situation and was acting cautiously to protect the country from surrounding fires.

"Given the sensitivity of the current situation, we speak very carefully. We are acting cautiously to protect Türkiye from surrounding fires," he said.

He said Türkiye was not a country indifferent to crises around it and did not turn its back on friends and brothers in times of crisis. He also said Türkiye was not pursuing adventure or tension and supported peace and calm across every part of the region.

Warning on sovereignty and regional tensions

Erdogan said Türkiye had moved out of a passive position and assumed a role as a power broker and game changer in its region.

"Türkiye has moved out of a passive position and assumed a role as a power broker in its region," he said, adding that those who reach against Türkiye or speak against it would face consequences.

He said Türkiye had no designs on the sovereignty of any country, but warned against any threat to its own territory.

"We have no eyes on the sovereignty of any country, whoever it may be, but if anyone sets their sights on our lands and seeks adventure, we will not hesitate to say, 'come and face us,'" he said.

Erdogan also said the Turkish nation had the will, courage and strength to break any hand extended toward what it considered sacred, and said authorities were taking necessary measures against what he described as bloody scenarios, especially sectarian conflict, that were being staged in the region.

He also warned against what he described as attempts by the "Zionist massacre network" to draw others into its game.
