Several wildfires broke out across Greece this week in the country's northern, western and southern regions, prompting emergency response from firefighting crews on the ground and in the air, according to reports in Greek media.
In the northern region of Drama, near the border with Bulgaria, a fire broke out in a forested area of Katafyto.
Thirty-two firefighters, three ground response teams and two vehicles were deployed to the site, with two aircraft and two helicopters supporting the effort from the air.
A separate fire broke out in Neromana, a forested area in the western region of Etolia-Akarnania. Forty-two firefighters, two ground response teams and 14 vehicles responded, backed by one aircraft and one helicopter.
Authorities sent an emergency alert through the 112 hotline to residents in the area, urging them to stand by and follow instructions from officials.
The 112 number is the European Union's common emergency line, used across member states including Greece.
In Messinia on the Peloponnese peninsula, a fire near Mesohori brought out 48 firefighters, 17 vehicles, and two ground teams, backed by four aircraft and a helicopter. Municipal water tankers aided the ground crews, while a 112 emergency alert was sent to nearby residents urging them to stay cautious.
Greece's General Secretariat for Civil Protection said wildfire risk would remain high in several regions, including Attica, Boeotia, Phthiotis, Preveza, Corinth, the Peloponnese peninsula and the Ionian Islands, and called on residents in those areas to remain vigilant.
