Saudi retired Gen. Mohammed Saleh al-Harbi said Saudi Arabia-Türkiye relations are at a very advanced level, describing Türkiye as a reliable partner and ally.

Harbi, a researcher and writer in strategic studies and political science, assessed Türkiye-Saudi Arabia relations and a planned railway project between the two countries during a program on Qatar-based Al Jazeera television.

“Frankly, Saudi Arabia-Türkiye relations are at a very advanced level,” Harbi said. “Türkiye is a reliable partner and ally.”

“The Turks have major projects in Saudi Arabia. In fact, Saudi Arabia has entered into partnerships with Baykar in the military field,” he added.

Harbi said Türkiye is one of NATO’s strong countries, adding that Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are consolidating their power at the regional level and acting in line with strategic balance.

Saudi Arabia-Türkiye railway project

Harbi said an agreement signed by the transport ministers of the two countries marked the beginning of the railway project planned between Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.

He described the project as a “strategic qualitative transformation” with social, historical, cultural and economic dimensions.

Harbi said the line would have an impact on global transportation, supply chains and logistics activities.

He said the railway line, planned to extend from Saudi Arabia to Türkiye through Jordan and Syria, would be about 3,000 kilometers long and would connect Asia to Europe.

The project would create an alternative land transport corridor between Gulf countries, Türkiye and Europe, Harbi said.

He said the railway line would be used for passenger and freight transport, as well as the movement of logistics materials and products.

The project would benefit not only Saudi Arabia but all countries along the route, Harbi noted.

“The benefit will be for everyone; there will be no loser,” he said.

He also said the development of relations between Türkiye and Saudi Arabia would facilitate the implementation of joint projects and strengthen cooperation in line with the regional interests of both countries.
