The World Ethnosport Union is set to bring together international stakeholders in Türkiye’s southwestern city of Antalya from April 3 to 5 for its 8th Ethnosport Forum.
The discussions at the event will focus on safeguarding traditional sports while shaping their future through global cooperation.
The gathering is expected to revolve around how to sustain and promote ethnosports, a term used to describe traditional sports and games rooted in cultural heritage.
The organization has been working to protect these practices, boost intercultural exchange, and raise awareness, and it will now take the opportunity to lay out short-, medium-, and long-term strategies.
Through a series of structured discussions, participants are set to take stock of current challenges while also looking ahead, with a shared aim of strengthening collaboration based on principles such as tradition, respect, solidarity, and peace.
As the forum unfolds, academics, federation representatives, and researchers will come together in panels to weigh up key issues, including international cooperation opportunities, financial sustainability, and media strategies.
These sessions are also expected to explore ways to broaden access to awards in traditional sports and games, with a focus on helping them reach wider audiences and gain greater visibility.
A major highlight of the forum will center on preparations for “Ethnosports 2027,” an internationally planned multi-sport event. Experts are set to assess its overall vision and goals while also breaking down its organizational structure and mapping out strategies for international participation.
Discussions will further look into sponsorship frameworks, financial sustainability models, and media planning as stakeholders work through how to position the event on a global stage.
The forum is expected to draw representatives from 50 institutional members across 29 countries affiliated with the World Ethnosport Union, alongside government officials, federation delegates, academics, and researchers.
World Ethnosport Union President Necmeddin Bilal Erdogan is scheduled to deliver the opening speech, after which the program will formally get underway with a ministerial panel featuring senior government officials.
Spanning two days of sessions, panels, and strategic exchanges, the forum is set to shed light on the future direction of traditional sports while also serving as a launching point for the Ethnosports 2027 process.
