Carlos Alcaraz will headline a strong Spanish squad at the Davis Cup Finals, captain David Ferrer announced on Monday.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion is joined by Rafael Jodar, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez. Spain last won the competition in 2019 and finished as runners-up last year.
Ferrer said he was delighted to have all his players available and described the group as a very good team. He acknowledged that Spain are among the favorites for the title, adding that having the best players at his disposal is always preferable.
World number three Alcaraz returns to team duty after a difficult season. He missed four months with a wrist injury but made his comeback at the U.S. Open and won the Japan Open in Tokyo earlier this month, arriving in strong form.
The competition will take place in Bologna, Italy, from Nov. 24 to 29. Spain will open against Austria in the quarterfinals. If they advance, they could face either Britain or Germany in the semifinals.
With a deep roster and their top player back to full fitness, Spain will be looking to end a title drought that stretches back to 2019. Ferrer, a former World No. 3 himself, will hope his selection can deliver a seventh Davis Cup crown for the nation.
