Roland Garros champion Mirra Andreeva suffered a setback in her first match since her Grand Slam triumph, losing 6-3, 6-4 to fellow Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old world No. 5 was competing in her first grass-court match of the 2026 season after withdrawing from the Berlin Open last week to allow additional recovery time and prepare for the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.

Alexandrova ends Andreeva’s comeback attempt

Andreeva, who captured her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros earlier this month, began the match strongly and stayed competitive in the early stages of the opening set. However, Alexandrova gained momentum and produced a dominant run, winning seven consecutive games to take control of the match.

The 31-year-old world No. 19 secured the first set 6-3 before continuing her strong form in the second set, racing into a 4-0 lead. Andreeva responded with a fighting display, saving a break point and winning three consecutive games to reduce the deficit.

Despite the late pressure, Alexandrova remained focused and successfully served out the match, sealing victory in one hour and 28 minutes.

Alexandrova will face Japan’s Naomi Osaka in the quarterfinals as she continues her run at the tournament.
