Türkiye's Anadolu Efes men’s basketball team is set to take on Greek powerhouse Olympiacos today in Round 24 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Europe’s top-tier club basketball competition, with the game tipping off in Istanbul.

The matchup will be played at the Turkcell Basketball Development Center, a modern arena that serves as the club’s home venue, and is scheduled to get under way at 8:30 p.m. local time. Anadolu Efes will be looking to turn things around after a difficult stretch in continental play, while Olympiacos arrives with a stronger league position despite having one game in hand.

Different league positions, shared EuroLeague ambitions

Anadolu Efes enters the game ranked 19th in the standings, having recorded six wins against 17 losses so far. The Istanbul-based side has gone through a challenging period, coming up short in its last seven EuroLeague outings, a run that has put pressure on the former champions to bounce back in front of their home crowd.

Olympiacos, one of Greece’s most established clubs, sits seventh with 14 wins and eight losses, although it has played one fewer game than most teams. The Piraeus-based side was beaten 82–78 by Anadolu Efes earlier in the season during their meeting in Greece, a result that gives the hosts a recent head-to-head advantage heading into this encounter.

A landmark night in European competition history

Beyond the immediate league implications, the game also marks a significant milestone for Anadolu Efes on the European stage. The Olympiacos fixture will be the club’s 899th appearance in European competitions, underlining its long-standing presence at the highest levels of continental basketball.

Across those 898 previous European games, Anadolu Efes has built up a record of 500 wins and 398 losses. In the EuroLeague era alone, where the club has competed continuously since the 2001–2002 season, this will be its 651st game. Out of the first 650 EuroLeague matches, the Istanbul side has come out on top 343 times, while being beaten in 307 contests.

As the season moves on, both teams will be looking to build momentum, with Anadolu Efes aiming to stop its losing run and Olympiacos seeking to strengthen its position in the playoff race.
