Young Turkish star Arda Guler, who plays for Real Madrid, expressed his joy after the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 victory over Manchester City. The Spanish side secured a 2‑1 win at Etihad Stadium, advancing to the quarterfinals with a 5‑1 aggregate score.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency after the match, Guler said, “We are very happy that we won. We won both at home and here, so we are very happy. Hopefully, we will win the trophy.” He emphasized how proud he was of the team’s performance.
In La Liga, Guler scored a stunning goal from 68 meters in the 89th minute during Real Madrid’s 4‑1 win over Elche. Reflecting on the moment, he said, “Thank God. I’ve been trying this for a long time. I’m very happy to have scored such a goal.”
The 21-year-old also spoke about Türkiye’s 2026 FIFA World Cup European Qualifiers play-off first match against Romania: “Hopefully, we can go to the 2026 World Cup. That is all of our biggest dreams.”
Real Madrid will face the winner of the Bayern Munich vs. Atalanta tie in the Champions League quarterfinals. When asked about the possibility of playing Bayern Munich, Guler replied simply, “We want to win.”
