Real Madrid secured a 4-1 victory over Elche in Spain’s top-flight football competition, LaLiga, with Turkish international Arda Guler delivering one of the most remarkable moments of the match by scoring from around 70 meters in the closing minutes.

The goal, struck from inside his own half after he noticed the opposing goalkeeper off his line, sealed the scoreline and stood out as one of the most striking goals of the season. The win lifted Real Madrid to 66 points, leaving them just one point behind league leader Barcelona, which still has one match in hand.

Early goals set the tone for Madrid’s control

The match, played in the 28th round of LaLiga, Spain’s premier professional football league, saw Real Madrid gradually take control before opening the scoring late in the first half.

German defender Antonio Rudiger broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, while Federico Valverde doubled the lead five minutes later. The home side then extended its advantage in the second half when Dean Huijsen found the net in the 66th minute, pushing the score to 3-0.

Despite falling behind, Elche, a team currently struggling near the bottom of the standings, continued to press forward and managed to pull one goal back in the 85th minute after Manuel Ibanez inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

Valverde’s leadership helps unlock the game

Real Madrid’s performance was shaped in large part by Federico Valverde, whose dynamic role across the pitch proved decisive. Observers highlighted his ability to influence both the start and the finish of attacking moves, including the play that led to Rudiger’s opening goal and his own powerful strike later in the half.

Real Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa was quoted as saying that Valverde had the ability to drive the team forward in a way reminiscent of former club icon Juanito, referring to the late Real Madrid forward known for his intensity and influence.

Tactical changes, academy players step up

The match also reflected a broader challenge facing the Madrid squad, which has been dealing with numerous injuries. Reports indicated that the team entered March with around ten players unavailable, limiting rotation ahead of demanding fixtures in European competition.

As a result, Arbeloa turned to younger players from the club’s academy system, sometimes referred to as the “cantera,” meaning homegrown talents developed within the club.

Several academy players were introduced during the second half, and their involvement helped sustain Madrid’s momentum. One such moment came when Yanez delivered a cross that Huijsen converted with a close-range header, further extending the lead.

A spectacular finish from Arda Guler

The night’s defining moment arrived in the 89th minute when Arda Guler collected the ball near the center circle inside his own half. Spotting Elche goalkeeper Paulo Dituro positioned high up the pitch, Guler struck a powerful left-footed shot toward goal.

The ball traveled roughly 70 meters before dropping into the net, leaving the goalkeeper unable to recover in time. The long-range strike drew the entire Real Madrid squad onto the pitch in celebration and brought the crowd at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium to its feet.
