Arsenal F.C. has won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years, sealing its 14th English top-flight title after Manchester City dropped points in a 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth.
The London club’s triumph ends a long wait dating back to the 2003-04 season, when Arsenal last finished as champions of England.
Arsenal secured the title on Tuesday after defending champions Manchester City were held by Bournemouth, a result that left the Gunners out of reach at the top of the table.
With one match still to play, Arsenal stand on 82 points, five ahead of second-placed Manchester City. That gap means City can no longer catch up, even if it wins the final game.
The championship marks Arsenal’s 14th English league crown and its first Premier League title since the famous 2003-04 campaign.
The result brings the Gunners back to the top of English football after more than two decades, underlining a season in which the team held off the challenge of the defending champions.
Arsenal will wrap up its title-winning season on Sunday with an away match against Crystal Palace F.C. at Selhurst Park, Palace’s home stadium in south London.
Although the title race has already been settled, the match will close out Arsenal’s first championship campaign in 22 years.
