Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have secured their places in the UEFA Champions League semifinals after completing their quarterfinal ties, with two more teams set to join them following Wednesday’s fixtures.
Atletico Madrid progressed despite a strong start from Barcelona, who quickly moved ahead in the return leg at the Metropolitano Stadium. The visitors opened the scoring early and doubled their lead before the halfway point, with goals coming from Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres.
As Barcelona tried to build momentum, Atletico responded by stepping up their attacking pressure and found a crucial goal through Ademola Lookman, which reduced the deficit and shifted the balance of the tie.
That goal proved decisive, as Atletico Madrid moved through to the semifinals on aggregate, relying on their advantage from the first leg. Barcelona’s hopes were further complicated late in the match when Eric Garcia was sent off, leaving the team a man down in the closing stages.
In the other quarterfinal, Paris Saint-Germain delivered a controlled performance at Anfield to eliminate Liverpool and confirm their place in the next round.
After a goalless first half, the French side broke through in the later stages of the match, with Ousmane Dembele scoring twice to secure a 2-0 victory.
Having already won the first leg by the same scoreline, PSG advanced comfortably on aggregate.
The final two semifinalists will be determined following Wednesday’s matches. Arsenal, who hold a narrow first-leg advantage, will host Sporting, while Real Madrid will travel to face Bayern Munich after losing the opening encounter at home.
Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 10:00 p.m. Turkish local time.
