FC Barcelona has identified Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen as a primary target for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Spanish media reports suggest the Nigerian international represents a more financially viable option than the club's initial choice, Julian Alvarez.

Osimhen currently splits his time between the gym and the pitch as he recovers from surgery on his right forearm after suffering a fracture in March 2026.

He sustained the injury during a Champions League match against Liverpool. Despite this setback, his performance in Türkiye has caught the attention of European scouts.

Financial hurdles for Alvarez deal

Barcelona officials previously viewed Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez as their "dream pick-up." However, the financial realities of the deal make a transfer unlikely.

Reports from Football Espana indicate several obstacles:

  • Valuation: Atletico Madrid values Alvarez at approximately €200 million ($233.93 million).
  • No discounts: Atletico bosses at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano refuse to accept player-plus-cash deals or reduced costs.
  • Strained budget: Barcelona continues to manage significant financial constraints and must distribute funds across multiple positions this summer.

Atleti currently holds a firm stance. The club no longer faces the same financial pressures of previous years and has no immediate plans to sell the Argentine international.

Sources suggest any potential deal would require a minimum of €100 million in liquid cash, a figure Barcelona may struggle to meet.

As for Victor Osimhen, he has maintained a high scoring rate since joining Galatasaray.

His statistics this season provide a clear picture of his impact in the Super Lig and European competitions:

  • Appearances: 29 matches
  • Goals: 19
  • Assists: 7

The Spanish press notes that Osimhen is a more "achievable" target for Barcelona's current budget compared to Alvarez. While the Nigerian forward focuses on his rehabilitation to assist Galatasaray in the final stretch of the league, his future appears increasingly tied to a move to La Liga.

The pursuit of a new striker remains a priority for Barcelona as the summer window approaches. Club management must now decide whether to persist with the costly Alvarez negotiations or pivot fully toward the Galatasaray star.
