Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva has signed a two-year contract with Real Madrid, the Spanish club announced Wednesday, adding another experienced name to a squad being reshaped under newly appointed coach Jose Mourinho.
The deal will keep Silva at the La Liga side until June 30, 2028. La Liga is Spain's top football division, while Real Madrid is one of its most successful clubs and is often referred to as "Los Blancos," a nickname linked to their traditional white kit.
Silva joined Manchester City from Monaco in 2017 and went on to make 459 appearances for the English club, scoring 76 goals across nine seasons.
The 31-year-old left City after his contract expired at the end of last season, closing out a period in which he won 15 major trophies. Those included four straight Premier League titles between 2021 and 2024, the 2023 treble featuring the Champions League, and all four domestic trophies in the 2018-19 season.
Real Madrid's move for Silva comes as the club looks to bounce back after two consecutive seasons without major trophies.
Florentino Perez, who was re-elected as club president, appointed Jose Mourinho as coach earlier in June. The club has also brought in Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for a reported 55 million euros, about $63.8 million.
Madrid is also set to sign Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate at the end of his contract at Anfield, while Inter Milan wing-back Denzel Dumfries has also been linked with the club.
