Besiktas has acquired the remaining 50% economic rights of midfielder Gedson Fernandes from SL Benfica for €10 million ($11.53 million), a move believed to be directly tied to a possible high-value transfer to Spartak Moscow. With full ownership secured, Besiktas now stands to receive 100% of the revenue from a sale that could reach up to €25 million.

The strategic buyout suggests that Besiktas is preparing to finalize Gedson’s transfer to the Russian club Spartak Moscow very soon.

From shared rights to full control

Gedson Fernandes was initially transferred from Benfica to Besiktas in 2022 for €6 million. As part of that deal, Benfica retained 50% of the player’s future resale value. On July 29, Besiktas officially announced via the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) that it had purchased Benfica’s share for €10 million, giving it 100% control over the player's economic rights.

Spartak Moscow transfer in works

  • With full rights now secured, Besiktas is close to finalizing a deal with Spartak Moscow, reportedly worth €20 million upfront plus €5 million in performance bonuses, bringing the total potential deal value to €25 million.
  • Previously, Besiktas was hesitant to proceed with such a deal due to Benfica's 50% claim, which would have limited Besiktas’ return to just half the sale.
  • Now, with the buyout complete, Besiktas will retain 100% of the income from the Spartak deal, which may have been a key reason behind the decision to pay Benfica €10 million up front.
