Besiktas has issued a strong statement condemning digital bullying after harsh criticism was directed at players David Jurasek and Keny Arroyo on social media. The club expressed support for its players under the message “No to digital bullying.”
Following a 4-2 home defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk, coached by Arda Turan, both Jurasek and Arroyo faced intense backlash from fans online.
Jurasek and Arroyo targeted after poor performance
David Jurasek, a 24-year-old Czech left-back on loan from Benfica, started in the match and played all 90 minutes. All four goals conceded by Besiktas came down his side, sparking heavy criticism. In response, Jurasek deactivated his Instagram account, only to reactivate it later.
Nineteen-year-old Keny Arroyo, who signed last season, also faced strong negative reactions. He removed posts of himself in a Besiktas jersey before shutting down his social media account entirely.
Besiktas reacts: 'No to digital bullying'
The club’s statement emphasized its stance against online abuse, calling for respect and responsibility in digital spaces. Besiktas stressed that personal attacks on players and their families will not be tolerated.
The situation highlights the growing concern in Türkiye and worldwide over digital harassment in sports, especially after poor team performances.
