Besiktas ends Galatasaray's 28-match unbeaten streak with 2-1 victory

In a thrilling encounter at the Tupras Stadium on Saturday, Besiktas secured a 2-1 victory against league leaders Galatasaray, marking the end of the visitors’ remarkable 28-match unbeaten streak in the Turkish Super Lig.

Besiktas took an early lead in the 23rd minute when Rafa Silva weaved through defenders and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.

Galatasaray down to 10

Galatasaray’s troubles mounted in the 38th minute when full-back Frankowski was shown a red card following a VAR review, reducing the visitors to 10 men.

Despite being a player down, Galatasaray responded with resilience, and Lucas Torreira equalized just before halftime with a stunning long-range strike in the 45th minute.

The second half saw intense action from both sides, but it was Besiktas’ Gedson Fernandes who proved to be the difference.

Decisive goal in 2nd half, tensions flare

In the 66th minute, Fernandes capitalized on a defensive lapse by Galatasaray to restore the home team’s lead.

Tensions flared late in the game, 69th minute, resulting in yellow cards for Galatasaray’s Baris Alper Yilmaz and Besiktas' Arthur Masuaku. Meanwhile, Besiktas’ Semih Kilicsoy was sent off with a red card during stoppage time.

This victory brought Besiktas' point total to 47, ending a two-match winless streak. Meanwhile, Galatasaray suffered its first defeat of the season, leaving them with 71 points, still at the top of the league standings.

The result marked Besiktas' first win in three matches, while Galatasaray's unbeaten streak came to an end after 28 weeks.
