Besiktas has completed the signing of Czech winger Vaclav Cerny, who arrived in Istanbul from Germany's Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.
The 27-year-old was welcomed at Istanbul Airport by Vice President and Executive Board Chairman Murat Kilic, while fans showed their excitement for the new signing.
Speaking to the press, Murat Kilic said: Cerny is one of our new wing signings. We will continue to strengthen the team until the transfer window closes. He really wanted to join Besiktas, and we were very keen to have him. We expect him to deliver goals and exciting performances for our fans."
Cerny added: "I cannot wait to meet my new teammates. Being here means a lot to me, and I am eager to get started."
The transfer fee for Cerny is reported to be €7 million ($8.19 million), payable in installments over three years. He will sign a 3+1 year contract after passing his medical check in Istanbul. Despite interest from other clubs including Hamburg, Cerny chose to join Besiktas.
Cerny spent last season on loan at Glasgow Rangers, where he played 52 matches, scored 18 goals, and provided 9 assists across all competitions. His standout performances include:
Competition | Matches | Goals | Assists | Minutes Played |
---|---|---|---|---|
Scottish Premiership | 28 | 11 | 2 | 2,160 |
Scottish Premiership – Meisterrunde | 5 | 1 | 2 | 331 |
UEFA Europa League | 12 | 6 | 2 | 932 |
SFA Cup | 1 | 0 | 0 | 90 |
Scottish League Cup | 4 | 0 | 2 | 345 |
UEFA Champions League Qualifiers | 2 | 0 | 1 | 75 |
Known for his speed, shooting ability, and playmaking skills, Cerny is expected to solve the attacking winger problem of Besiktas. Because of the winger problem, Besiktas was disqualified from both the Europa League and Conference League. Besiktas fans are frustrated about the lack of wing options and the management's delay in transfers, and Cerny becomes an important signing for this reason.
