A boxing match between a Turkish and a Russian fighter in northeastern Türkiye spiraled into a large-scale brawl after tensions flared at the end of a round, forcing officials to halt the contest midway.
The incident took place at Besirli Sports Hall in the Black Sea city of Trabzon, where Turkish national boxer Emirhan Kalkan faced Russian opponent Sergei Gorokhov for the UBO World Championship belt, a title awarded by the Universal Boxing Organization, an international sanctioning body.
According to reports, tensions began to build during the third round after what was described as a disrespectful gesture from the Russian side toward their opponents. The situation quickly escalated, as the atmosphere inside the ring turned hostile and spilled beyond the ropes.
What started as a verbal confrontation soon turned physical, drawing in multiple individuals from both teams and the ringside.
As the situation escalated, dozens of people entered the ring area, turning the scene into a chaotic brawl. Footage captured on mobile phones showed plastic chairs being thrown, along with punches and kicks exchanged among those involved.
Security personnel attempted to step in but struggled to contain the rapidly growing confrontation. Announcements over the venue’s loudspeakers called for calm, though the disorder continued for some time before partial control was restored.
The scale of the disruption forced officials to call off the match before its conclusion.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, while videos of the altercation have circulated widely, showing the extent of the disorder inside the venue.
