Cape Verde goalkeeper Josimar Jose Evora Dias, known as Vozinha, said he misses the privacy of life before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in an interview with British outlet Observer.
The 40-year-old said that if given a choice between his life today and his life before the tournament, he would choose his previous one.
Vozinha said even routine outings have become difficult since the World Cup, as people frequently ask him for photographs or autographs when he visits restaurants.
"Even worse are the people who film me on their phones. That is the biggest change in my life. I do not think there is anything I can do about it," Vozinha said.
Vozinha signed with Chilean club Colo Colo in August.
He said he no longer has any privacy and has turned off notifications on his Instagram account to avoid checking who follows him.
"I lost my peace and calm," Vozinha said, adding that he did not initially understand how large his following had grown.
He recalled that a member of his team's catering staff told him he had "a billion" followers, a claim he initially thought was a joke. He said a television journalist later showed him a phone confirming he had more than one million followers.
Cape Verde was eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the round of 32, losing 3-2 to Argentina. The team's run drew wide attention from football fans, with Vozinha emerging as one of its most recognized figures.
