In a thrilling season-opening Grand Slam final, Carlos Alcaraz overcame four-time champion Novak Djokovic 3‑1 to claim the Australian Open men’s singles title.
Despite early pressure from Djokovic, the 22-year-old Spaniard remained composed and turned the match around to secure a historic victory.
Djokovic took control early with powerful serving, breaking Alcaraz in the fourth game and winning the first set 6‑2.
Alcaraz responded in the second set, breaking Djokovic twice and hitting decisive winners to take it 6‑2, leveling the match 1‑1.
In the third set, Alcaraz’s defense and consistency paid off, as he converted two of six break-point opportunities to win 6‑3, taking a 2‑1 lead.
The fourth set remained closely contested, but Alcaraz broke Djokovic in the 12th game and closed the set 7‑5, sealing the match in 3 hours and 2 minutes.
With this win, Alcaraz completes a career Grand Slam, having previously triumphed at the French Open, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
At 22 years and 272 days old, he becomes the youngest male player in history to win all four majors, surpassing Don Budge’s 1938 record.
Alcaraz joins an elite group of men—including Fred Perry, Don Budge, Roy Emerson, Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic—who have achieved a career Grand Slam.
