Former Real Madrid captain Daniel Carvajal has signed with Spanish La Liga club Getafe on a contract running until June 30, 2027, following his departure from the Spanish giants earlier this year.
The 34-year-old right-back joins Getafe as a free agent after his contract with Real Madrid expired in June, bringing an end to a career at the club that saw him collect 27 major trophies.
Getafe confirmed the agreement Tuesday, announcing that the Spanish international would remain with the club until the summer of 2027.
The transfer had reportedly been held up by La Liga's financial regulations, despite Carvajal agreeing to a significant salary reduction to complete the move.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, the defender will earn less than €1 million ($1.16 million) annually at Getafe, compared with his reported salary of approximately €10 million per year at Real Madrid.
However, Getafe has not publicly disclosed the financial terms of the agreement, including Carvajal's exact salary.
Carvajal arrives at Getafe after a trophy-laden career with Real Madrid, where he won 27 titles, including six UEFA Champions League trophies, Europe's premier club football competition.
The Spanish defender also enjoyed international success, helping Spain secure the 2023 UEFA Nations League title and the 2024 UEFA European Championship.
His move to Getafe marks a new chapter in his career following his departure from Real Madrid.
