The 2027 Spanish Super Cup could be staged in Istanbul instead of Saudi Arabia, potentially bringing an El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona to Türkiye, according to a report from Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez.
Martinez said the tournament, which serves as the first trophy competition of the season, is expected to take place during the first week of February and would not be held in Saudi Arabia.
The reported semifinal lineup would see Real Sociedad take on Real Madrid, while Barcelona would face Atletico Madrid.
If Real Madrid and Barcelona both make it through their semifinals, the two Spanish giants would meet in the final in Istanbul, setting up an El Clasico, the name commonly used for matches between the two clubs.
Such a scenario could also bring Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho and Barcelona coach Hansi Flick up against each other for the first time in an official match.
Despite the report linking Istanbul with the tournament, no official announcement has yet been made regarding the host country or city for the 2027 Spanish Super Cup.
