Fenerbahce has appointed Emre Belozoglu as its new head coach following the departure of Ismail Kartal, the club announced in a post on X.
In its statement, the club described Belozoglu as part of the Fenerbahce community both as a player on the pitch and as a coach on the touchline, and said he is now in charge of the team. The statement ended with the line “Welcome home, Emre Belozoglu.”
The 46-year-old former player signed a 1.5-year contract with the club.
Fenerbahce is based in Istanbul’s Kadikoy district on the Asian side of the city.
Belozoglu previously played for Fenerbahce. He also played for Inter and Newcastle United during his career.
Kasimpasa, another Istanbul club, based in the Beyoglu district on the European side of the city, had earlier announced that it was parting ways with Belozoglu, who served as its head coach.
In a statement, Kasimpasa thanked Belozoglu and his team for their work and contribution during their time at the club and wished them success in the next stage of their careers.
