Erzurum, a city in eastern Türkiye, hosted the 10th Erzurum Culture and Tourism Off-Road Festival, with nearly 60 clubs and nearly 50 vehicles taking part.
The races, organized by the Dadas Off-Road Sports Club with the support of the Governorship, the Metropolitan Municipality and the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, were held on a challenging, rugged 2,000-meter track in the Yakutiye district.
Pilots trying to get past obstacles in their 4x4 vehicles on the muddy, highly difficult terrain completed the race in two laps.
Ignoring the cold weather and occasional snowfall, the pilots battled to reach the finish line in the shortest time possible.
Residents who came to the event area watched the races, which featured entertaining moments, with interest.
Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Ahmet Yer told reporters that they held the 10th edition of the festival in Erzurum this year.
Speaking about the festival’s contributions, Yer said more than 100 athletes took part with nearly 50 vehicles from different provinces of Türkiye.
“There was great participation in this event, which we held to promote Erzurum’s history, nature and culture,” he said. “The tracks are very good. The off-road teams are truly giving everything to complete the track and finish the race.”
Yer said that, as the Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, they are trying to convey Erzurum’s nature, culture, sports, adventure tourism, and tourism diversity to all of Türkiye through events like this to promote the city.
Dadas Off-Road Sports Club President Muhammet Kan also stressed that the festival went well. “It is going very lively and fun,” he said. “We have participants and athletes from many provinces such as Adana, Kahramanmaras, Elbistan, Artvin, Trabzon, Rize, Kars and Igdir. We have nearly 60 clubs and nearly 50 race vehicles.”
Kan said they have no problems right now and that security measures are in place. “We built an extreme track with plenty of mud. We prepared such a track by taking precautions,” he said.
He said every vehicle that enters will be timed, and the one with the shortest time will take first place. “There will be races class by class, S1, S2, S3 and S4, and we added a women’s class, which we are holding for the third time in Türkiye,” Kan said. “The women will race last. They have seven vehicles and will compete among themselves.”
Participant Gozde Kan said she is an off-road enthusiast.
Noting that a women’s class was opened at the festival, Kan said, "Seven women raced, and it was a great race. Our track was wonderful. Despite the cold weather, the people of Erzurum were here too. We had a lot of fun.”
She said the races were going very well and that the co-drivers and pilots had a great time. “Off-road clubs came from distant hometowns and many provinces and saw Erzurum and our track. Everyone is very happy, and we are very pleased,” she said.
