French club JL Bourg Basket has confirmed that it will not participate in the EuroLeague next season, despite securing the EuroCup championship and earning eligibility for promotion to Europe’s premier basketball competition.
Bourg claimed the EuroCup title by defeating Besiktas 2–0 in the final series. Following the conclusion of the season, the organization conducted an extensive review of the sporting, financial and structural implications associated with competing in the EuroLeague.
In an official statement, the club indicated that while the opportunity to join the EuroLeague was carefully evaluated over several weeks, it was ultimately determined that such a step could compromise the stability of its existing sporting project.
Factors including increased budgetary demands, logistical requirements and long-term sustainability were cited as key considerations in the decision-making process.
As a result, JL Bourg will continue to compete in the EuroCup for the upcoming season. The club reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its current development model and competitive ambitions within Europe’s second-tier continental competition.
