PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joey Veerman is headed to Türkiye in a €23 million transfer to Fenerbahce as the Istanbul club's president Saadettin Saran faces summons for testimony in an unrelated drug investigation while abroad.
The 27-year-old Netherlands international has agreed to personal terms with the 20-time Turkish champions, with the transfer set to become official when his release clause takes effect on Jan. 1, 2026. Sources indicate Fenerbahce offered substantial wages to persuade Veerman to move to Türkiye over other potential suitors.
The timing of the transfer negotiations coincides with Turkish prosecutors summoning Saran to provide testimony in a drug probe, though authorities have issued no arrest warrant against the Fenerbahce president and prominent businessman. Turkish media reports indicate Saran is currently abroad, with speculation suggesting his trip relates to the Veerman transfer discussions.
Veerman is experiencing his most productive campaign since joining PSV from Heerenveen for €6 million in January 2022. The midfielder has contributed eight goals and six assists in just 15 Eredivisie matches this season, surpassing his previous career high for goals scored.
His standout performances come months after PSV rejected his first opportunity to play abroad. Brentford pursued Veerman last summer but failed to secure a deal, and the Premier League club was reportedly preparing another January bid before Fenerbahce's intervention. The Dutch midfielder extended his PSV contract through 2028 in November 2024, adding a release clause that Fenerbahce has now triggered.
Across 177 appearances for PSV, Veerman recorded 31 goals and 59 assists, establishing himself as a key creative force in the Eredivisie. The 16-time Netherlands international will depart the club during his most prolific scoring stretch.
