Fenerbahce President Sadettin Saran has dismissed speculation surrounding Colombian striker Jhon Duran’s month-long absence from the pitch, confirming that the 21-year-old is recovering from an injury.
The Yellow Canaries' newly elected president said he personally verified Duran’s condition through medical consultation. "Jhon Duran genuinely has an injury. I spoke with his doctor in Spain and reviewed his MRI results. He will rejoin us within a few weeks," Saran stated during a press conference held at Chobani Stadium Sukru Saracoglu Sports Complex in Istanbul on Wednesday.
The clarification follows a wave of reports circulating on social media alleging that Duran was not injured and had chosen not to play for the team following the departure of Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho. Other claims suggested the club had failed to pay the player’s salary in full or meet the terms of his loan agreement.
Duran, who joined Fenerbahce on a loan deal during the summer transfer window, has missed nine consecutive matches while undergoing treatment. According to Transfermarkt, his injury has been classified as bone inflammation.
The Colombian forward recently resumed partial training sessions at the club’s facilities under the supervision of new head coach Domenico Tedesco, according to a statement from the club.
Ahead of Fenerbahce’s upcoming Super Lig match against Fatih Karagumruk on Saturday, Duran has ended his individual rehabilitation and started to reintegrate with the team, although the exact date of his return to competitive play remains uncertain.
