Fenerbahce Women’s Volleyball Team captain Eda Erdem has signed a new two-year contract with the Istanbul club, extending her career with the yellow navy club and putting her on track to complete 20 seasons in the same jersey.
The signing ceremony took place at Chobani Stadium in the Fenerbahce Sukru Saracoglu Sports Complex, with club president Sadettin Saran and senior officials in attendance.
Erdem, who joined Fenerbahce in 2008, said the club had become her family and promised to continue fighting for new titles with the team.
“I came here not just to sign but to say thank you with great pride,” Erdem said. “The day I entered this club in 2008 feels like yesterday. What started as a transfer became a dream fulfilled. The jersey I wore that day became my family over time.”
The veteran player said she aims to complete her career by serving the club and winning all remaining trophies.
Fenerbahce president Sadettin Saran described the contract renewal as a symbol of long-term loyalty and dedication.
“We are witnessing the signature of belonging, loyalty, and years of effort,” Saran said. “Eda did not only represent Fenerbahce, but she also lived Fenerbahce. Her name will remain in this club’s memory not just as an athlete but as a symbol of the Fenerbahce spirit.”
He said the new agreement marks the continuation of her journey rather than a farewell, adding that Erdem will continue to lead the team and pursue new victories.
Following the extension, she will complete 20 years in the Fenerbahce jersey and later continue serving the club in an official role.
Erdem said she has experienced many proud moments during her career but described the unveiling of her statue as her most memorable achievement.
“One day my Fenerbahce career will end, but my statue will remain there,” she said. “If a child asks who I am and learns my story, the happiness I will feel will be incredible.”
She said her immediate focus is short-term success with her club rather than long-term plans.
“My goal now is to finish the season healthy and win all remaining trophies with my club,” she said. She also expressed confidence in Türkiye’s women’s national volleyball team, saying it remains a strong contender for podium finishes regardless of her involvement.
Erdem stressed the importance of serving as a role model for young athletes, especially girls entering sports.
“Being a good role model for girls is invaluable for me,” she said, encouraging young athletes to enjoy the game, set goals, and trust themselves despite challenges.
She also said she would remain committed to Fenerbahce beyond her playing career.
“Fenerbahce will always be in my life. Whenever my club needs me, I am always ready,” she said.
The signing ceremony concluded with a presentation of gifts and commemorative photographs.
