Fenerbahce parted ways with head coach Domenico Tedesco on Monday after a 3-0 defeat to Galatasaray in the 31st round of the Trendyol Super Lig left the club seven points adrift at the top of the table with three matches remaining, ending any realistic hope of a league title.

The club's board of directors convened following the loss at Rams Park and confirmed the decision in an official statement, also announcing the departures of sporting director Devin Ozek and football coordinator Berke Celebi. Assistant coach Zeki Murat Gole will take charge for the final three fixtures of the season.

"In line with the decisions taken at our board meeting, we have parted ways with head coach Domenico Tedesco and his technical staff," the club said. "We thank them for their contributions to our club and wish them success in their future careers."

A promising tenure undone at the final hurdle

Tedesco, 40, arrived at Fenerbahce in September after the club's acrimonious split with Jose Mourinho, inheriting a squad unsettled by a club presidential election and a fractious atmosphere around the dugout. The Italian-German coach, who previously managed Schalke, RB Leipzig and the Belgian national team, stabilized the side and guided them to the Turkish Super Cup in January, beating Galatasaray 2-0 in the final. For much of the season, Fenerbahce remained genuine contenders for a league title the club has not won in over a decade.

The final weeks, however, unraveled quickly. A 2-2 home draw against Rizespor, in which Fenerbahce surrendered a late lead, had already raised doubts about the squad's composure under pressure. Reports indicated that opinion within the club over Tedesco's future had become divided before Sunday's fixture, with the derby cast as a make-or-break moment.

The derby that decided his fate

The match at Rams Park proved decisive in every sense. Fenerbahce missed a first-half penalty and conceded three times without reply, with goals from Victor Osimhen, Baris Alper Yilmaz and Lucas Torreira sealing a comprehensive home victory for Galatasaray. The result opened a seven-point gap between the two sides, ending the title race as a contest.

With the championship beyond reach, Zeki Murat Gole steps up from the assistant's role to oversee a meaningless end to the campaign. Fenerbahce gave no indication of their plans for next season, leaving the club's managerial future an open question as the summer approaches.
