Fenerbahce is preparing to make a move for Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz during the January transfer window, with the Turkish club hoping former player Arda Guler can help bring the Morocco international to Istanbul, according to a report.
The Yellow Canaries have turned their attention to strengthening the left wing after failing to get the expected output from Kerem Akturkoglu and Oguz Aydin. Coach Ismail Kartal wants another option in the position, while the club's management has placed Diaz at the top of its shortlist.
The Yellow Canaries want to convince Diaz to join them in Istanbul and are considering asking Guler to help with the pitch.
Guler, who previously played for Fenerbahce before moving to Real Madrid, could help persuade his teammate to make the switch, reports suggested.
Fenerbahce is expected to begin formal contacts toward the end of this month for the 27-year-old, who has fallen behind in Jose Mourinho's plans at Real Madrid.
The Istanbul side is also preparing an attractive salary package for the forward, whose contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the season.
Diaz offers versatility in attack, capable of playing on either wing as well as in the No. 10 position. He previously appeared for Spain in a friendly before choosing to represent Morocco.
Real Madrid could still stand in the way of a January move. Spanish media reports indicate the Spanish giants are considering extending Diaz's contract to avoid losing him for a low fee.
Fenerbahce's archrival Galatasaray also made an approach for Diaz during the summer transfer window but failed to convince either the player or Real Madrid, earlier reports said.
Diaz, 27, has struggled to find playing time under Mourinho so far this season, making only 4 appearances and providing 1 assist.
