Fenerbahce is stepping up its efforts to strengthen the squad as it aims to end its 11-year Super Lig title drought, with Manchester City’s Jack Grealish emerging as a major transfer target.
Determined to build a championship-winning team, Fenerbahce has launched an ambitious transfer campaign, according to Turkish outlet Hurriyet.
Club president Ali Koc recently stated that the club plans to sign “four top-level players,” with Grealish now believed to be one of the main priorities.
According to reports in the British media, the Istanbul-based club has initiated talks to bring the 29-year-old England international to Türkiye.
Manchester City, who paid €117 million ($132.81 million) for Grealish, is reportedly open to parting ways with the player at the end of the season.
Fenerbahce is said to be exploring the possibility of signing Grealish on a free transfer. Meanwhile, Manchester City supporters have already begun posting farewell messages online in anticipation of his exit.
This season, Grealish has made 32 appearances for City, scoring 4 goals and providing 5 assists.
Fenerbahce were last crowned champions 11 years ago and were undone this season by their failure to win any of the four Istanbul derbies against Galatasaray and Besiktas.
The pressure is mounting on Jose Mourinho. After losing to Galatasaray in the Turkish Cup quarter-finals earlier in the season, Mourinho also lost the league title to Fenerbahce's archrival.
Meanwhile, missing out on silverware could trigger Mourinho's departure from Fenerbahce a year before the end of his contract, local media suggest.
