Fenerbahce forward Dorgeles Nene scored twice as Mali opened their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 3-1 home victory over Cape Verde in Group K.
Mali went ahead early at the March 26 Stadium, with Ange Tia finding the net in the fifth minute, although Cape Verde quickly hit back through Trabzonspor player Sidny Lopes Cabral, who scored directly from a free kick five minutes later.
With the score level at 1-1, Nene took over for Mali before halftime, putting his side back in front in the 39th minute.
The Fenerbahce player then struck again in the 51st minute to complete his brace and wrap up Mali's 3-1 victory.
Mali will next travel to face Liberia on Sept. 29 for their second Group K match.
Cape Verde, meanwhile, will host Rwanda on the same day.
