Fenerbahce manager Domenico Tedesco stated that he remains focused only on his team, even though the points gap with league leaders has narrowed, following Fenerbahce’s 4-2 home victory against Zecorner Kayserispor in the 12th week of the Trendyol Super Lig.
Speaking after the match at Chobani Stadium, the Italian coach began by expressing his happiness in Turkish, saying, “Bu aksam cok mutluyum,” meaning “I am very happy this evening.” He emphasized that the match was more challenging than the scoreline might suggest, particularly given the team’s recent travels and the intense schedule.
Tedesco explained that Kayserispor’s playing style required patience and composure. The opponent averages a high number of crosses each match, which forced Fenerbahce to remain organized and disciplined. He noted that earlier in the season, careless possession might have led to costly counterattacks, but the team has now become more mature in game management.
He stated that finding attacking spaces took time and that players needed to keep circulating the ball until the right moment appeared for forward passes.
When asked about league rivals Galatasaray losing away to Kocaelispor, reducing the gap at the top to one point, Tedesco responded clearly: “I do not care about Galatasaray. I am the head coach of Fenerbahce. I only focus on my own team.”
He added that analysis of rivals would begin only when the two sides meet directly, stressing that the season remains long and the current standings are not decisive.
Tedesco mentioned that he did not hear the fans chanting his name during the match, as he was entirely focused on the game. However, learning about the gesture afterwards made him very happy.
He highlighted that for coaches and players, supporters are of great importance, and when the fans are content, the team’s motivation naturally increases.
With midfielder Ismail Yuksek absent, Fred returned to the starting lineup and delivered an impressive performance. Tedesco noted that Fred had not played for a considerable period, making his 70-75 minutes on the pitch noteworthy.
He said the team had recently established a stable midfield trio with Ismail, Edson, and Marco, and that Fred’s temporary absence was not a negative decision toward him, but a tactical balance. He described Fred as professional, positive, and influential in both phases of play, adding that he was proud of his contribution.
The manager underlined that players remain fully committed to training and tactical preparation. He said the atmosphere within the squad is strong, with everyone supportive of one another, including those who start on the bench.
He added that physical fitness is in good condition, though playing three matches in quick succession naturally increases fatigue, making fresh substitutions valuable.
