Thousands of kilometers away in Baku, Galatasaray fans gather by a big screen next to the Caspian Sea.

When the final whistle blows, flares light up the waterfront, Turkish and Azerbaijani flags wave together, and chants ring out along the shore.

The celebration is the same; only the sea has changed.

The streets of Istanbul fill with celebration even before any official word. From Taksim Square to Istiklal Avenue, and from Avcılar to Sultangazi, fans pour out with flags and flares, their cheers echoing across the Bosphorus.

Convoys of cars line the shores along the strait, and horns blare nonstop. Fireworks light up the sky. For one night, the city is bathed in shades of yellow and red.

The numbers show a story that goes back decades.

Since the three-point system began in the 1987-88 season, Galatasaray has won 19 out of 39 Super Lig titles, more than any other club.

With four straight championships under coach Okan Buruk, the club now leads Turkish football.

Their next goal is clear: five in a row, a record the league has never seen.
