Galatasaray has issued an official statement regarding the potential transfer of midfielder Yilmaz, highlighting unauthorized negotiations involving the player’s representative.
Galatasaray is facing a high-stakes transfer situation as Saudi club NEOM has increased its bid for midfielder Baris Alper Yilmaz to €35 million ($40.50 million), leaving the Turkish team in a delicate position.
Galatasaray stated that multiple offers for Yilmaz had been previously rejected, yet NEOM continued discussions with the player’s agent without permission.
“These actions are a clear violation of football’s ethical values and international regulations,” the club said.
The astronomical offer reportedly led Yilmaz to miss training on Wednesday. Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk has expressed a desire to keep the 22-year-old, but the financial appeal of the Saudi proposal is significant.
NEOM reportedly offered Yilmaz a four-year contract worth €10 million per year, with his agent actively encouraging him to accept.
Galatasaray is reportedly asking for around €60 million for the 22-year-old, who has been in top form this season. The club’s leadership remains hesitant to sell the star player despite the lucrative offer, citing both the team’s Champions League ambitions and adherence to proper transfer protocols.
The current situation echoes Galatasaray’s approach with Victor Osimhen at Napoli. Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed that Paris Saint-Germain had offered over €200 million for Osimhen and teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia last season.
“We kept the players not for the money but for success,” Laurentiis said, highlighting the importance of sporting priorities over financial gain.
