Istanbul club Galatasaray lost 2-0 away to Konyaspor in the 23rd week of Türkiye’s Trendyol Super Lig on Saturday, ending a 10-match unbeaten run and tightening pressure in the title race.
Head coach Okan Buruk rotated his squad after the team’s 5-2 UEFA Champions League win over Juventus earlier in the week, making six changes to the starting lineup. Nigerian star Victor Osimhen was left out of the squad due to reported knee pain following that match.
Neither side created clear scoring chances in the first half at MEDAS Konya Metropolitan Stadium, with play largely concentrated in midfield and the score remaining level at the break.
Galatasaray held more possession after halftime but failed to convert control into goals. Konyaspor instead took advantage of their opportunities, with Adil Demirbag scoring in the 75th minute before Blaz Kramer doubled the lead in the 81st minute to seal the home victory.
The result left Galatasaray on 55 points, marking only their second defeat of the season, while Konyaspor secured their fifth win and moved up to 23 points.
Despite the defeat, Galatasaray remains at the top of the standings, holding a three-point lead over rivals Fenerbahce. However, Fenerbahce has a game in hand and can erase that gap if it defeats Kasimpasa on Monday, Feb. 23.
Galatasaray has won the Turkish Super Lig title in each of the past three seasons, while archrivals Fenerbahce are seeking to end a 12-year championship drought. Fenerbahce, coached by Domenico Tedesco, suffered a 3-0 home defeat to English side Nottingham Forest in the UEFA Europa League earlier this week.
Fenerbahce remains unbeaten in domestic league play this season, maintaining consistent results that have kept it within reach of the top spot and strengthened its position as Galatasaray’s closest challenger in the title race.
