Galatasaray is reportedly taking steps to prevent key players from joining rival Turkish clubs after Fenerbahce showed interest in former Galatasaray forward Kerem Akturkoglu.
According to Türkiye Daily, the club will include clauses in the contracts of players who may leave for Europe or Saudi Arabia, preventing them from signing with other Turkish teams if they return to Türkiye.
This policy aims to avoid situations similar to the potential transfer of Baris Alper Yilmaz, who is being courted by NEOM SC, or Kerem Akturkoglu’s rumored move to Fenerbahce.
Previously, when Galatasaray sold Akturkoglu to Benfica, no clause was included restricting a possible return to Turkiye. The new measure represents a shift in the club’s approach to player sales.
Going forward, players such as Yilmaz, Gabriel Sara, and Yunus Akgun, if sold, would have clauses in their contracts preventing them from joining rival Turkish teams, particularly Fenerbahce, upon returning to Turkiye. The clause is modeled on Napoli’s sale of Victor Osimhen, which included a “cannot be sold to an Italian club for two years” stipulation.
