Fenerbahce’s ongoing efforts to sign Turkish international Kerem Akturkoglu have hit a roadblock after Benfica reportedly rejected the latest offer from the Turkish club.

The transfer saga has drawn attention both in Türkiye and across Europe, highlighting the high stakes involved in bringing the winger back to the Turkish league.

Benfica dismisses Fenerbahce offer

According to Portuguese media outlet Record, Benfica’s officials turned down Fenerbahce’s updated bid within just 30 minutes.

Fenerbahce initially proposed 25 million euros for Akturkoglu, but later adjusted the offer following his appearance in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers against Nice.

Despite this, Benfica’s management remained firm, emphasizing that playing in the qualifier did not reduce the player’s market value.

Benfica President Rui Costa reportedly reacted angrily to statements made by Fenerbahce President Ali Koc regarding the transfer, contributing to the refusal of the latest bid.

Akturkoglu appears content at Benfica

Despite ongoing transfer speculation, Benfica’s head coach Bruno Lage has stated that Akturkoglu is happy at the Portuguese club.

Speaking after Benfica’s match against Estrela da Amadora, Lage clarified that the decision to bench the Turkish winger was tactical.

He noted that other players were selected to provide more speed and dribbling on the wing, but this was not an indication of Akturkoglu’s potential departure.

Lage further described the player’s mindset, saying, “He is happy to be here, chose a new number, started the season well, scored goals, helped the team win the Super Cup, and is fully focused on Benfica.”

Fenerbahce’s position

Fenerbahce President Ali Koc addressed the transfer during an event in Izmir, revealing the club’s efforts to secure the winger.

Koc emphasized that Fenerbahce had made a substantial conditional offer, even guaranteeing that Akturkoglu would not play against Benfica in specific matches if required.

However, the Turkish club maintains that the offer is no longer valid and is awaiting a response to a revised bid.

Koc also highlighted international interest in the player, noting that high-profile managers like Jose Mourinho admire Akturkoglu’s talent.

With both clubs holding firm positions, the future of Kerem Akturkoglu’s transfer remains uncertain.
