Galatasaray strengthened its position at the top of the Trendyol Super Lig standings with a 2–1 away victory over Genclerbirligi in Matchweek 30.
The visitors made a rapid start at Eryaman Stadium, taking the lead in the 2nd minute through Mauro Icardi. Galatasaray maintained its attacking pressure and doubled the advantage in the 35th minute when Yunus Akgun found the net.
Genclerbirligi reduced the deficit in the 67th minute via Mbaye Niang, but the home side was unable to secure an equalizer despite improved second-half efforts.
With this result, Galatasaray increased its points tally to 71, extending the gap to four points over closest rival Fenerbahce, which dropped points in the same round.
The victory provides Galatasaray with significant momentum ahead of the upcoming derby against Fenerbahce. A win in that fixture would see the league leaders extend their advantage to seven points with three matches remaining.
The match also marked the end of a goal drought for both Icardi and Akgun, who had not scored in the league for seven consecutive weeks.
Meanwhile, a second-half goal from Leroy Sane was disallowed following a VAR review for offside.
For Genclerbirligi, the defeat leaves the club on 25 points and at risk of dropping into the relegation zone, with upcoming fixtures expected to be decisive in its battle for survival.
