Galatasaray’s Turkish Cup defense came to an abrupt end with a 2–0 defeat to Genclerbirligi at RAMS Park, as the Ankara side produced a clinical second-half performance to book their place in the semi-finals.
After a cagey and uneventful first half, the match burst into life following the restart. Genclerbirligi struck in the 51st minute when Firatcan Uzum finished off a rapid counterattack, silencing the home crowd.
Galatasaray pushed forward in search of a response but struggled to create clear chances. Their night went from bad to worse in the 83rd minute, when goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc failed to deal with a corner, allowing Adama Traore to pounce and slot home from close range.
The outcome marks a significant upset, as Galatasaray, 'last season’s cup winners, exit the competition at the quarter-final stage in a single-elimination format. Genclerbirligi, meanwhile, advances to the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the Samsunspor versus Trabzonspor fixture.
During the match, sections of the Galatasaray supporters voiced their dissatisfaction with Ahmed Kutucu, who was substituted in the 56th minute. In contrast, goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc received mixed reactions following his mistake, though he was later supported by teammates and parts of the crowd after the final whistle.
Also, Victor Osimhen returned to action after a 35-day absence due to injury, entering the match in the latter stages with a protective bandage.
