Galatasaray has set its sights on Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez following the farewell of long-time club legend Fernando Muslera. Aston Villa has given approval for the transfer, and negotiations have officially begun.

After 14 successful years guarding the Galatasaray goal, Muslera’s departure has left a key vacancy, and the club has reportedly identified Martinez as his heir.

According to reports from the British press, Galatasaray is moving forward to secure the services of the 31-year-old Aston Villa goalkeeper.

The English club has approved Martinez’s transfer for a fee reported to be around €20 million ($22.82 million).

Martinez, who was a standout performer for Argentina during their 2022 World Cup triumph, has already bid farewell to Aston Villa fans after the club’s recent home match.

Türkiye Daily claims that Galatasaray has been closely monitoring Martinez for some time, impressed by his experience, leadership qualities, and shot-stopping abilities—all characteristics that match the profile they are seeking.

Negotiations between the two clubs are expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, with a final agreement likely soon.

This season, Martinez has played 53 matches for Aston Villa, conceding 61 goals while keeping 16 clean sheets, highlighting his vital role in the team.
