Galatasaray defeated Goztepe 3-1 in a Trendyol Super Lig match on Wednesday to move four points clear at the top of the table. Baris Alper Yilmaz, Ilkay Gundogan, and Lemina scored the goals that secured the victory.

This on-field success quickly took a backseat during a volatile post-match press conference where head coach Okan Buruk dropped two major bombshells.

The manager confirmed that star striker Victor Osimhen is nearing a return from injury while also launching a scathing attack on internal "traitors" allegedly leaking tactical secrets.

Galatasaray secures a vital lead

The Istanbul giants capitalized on their title rivals' dropped points to extend their lead at a critical stage of the season.

The team navigated a difficult away atmosphere in Izmir despite several injury concerns and a dense match schedule. Buruk employed a 4-3-3 formation and positioned Lemina in front of the defense to allow the full-backs to collect the ball deeper. Lemina started in place of Torreira, who missed the opening lineup due to back muscle pain.

The movement of Ilkay and Asprilla between the defensive blocks increased offensive depth. Sane provided width on the touchline and Sallai made critical runs to create multiple scoring opportunities. Buruk rested Lang following a finger injury and chose Sallai to handle the physical nature of the match.

Early goals from Yilmaz and Gundogan gave Galatasaray a 2-0 lead before a second-half Goztepe strike caused a ten-minute period of panic. Lemina eventually secured the win with a third goal.

Buruk admitted his team struggled after the home side scored and blamed individual errors for the brief loss of control. He noted that defenders stayed too far from opponents during recent goals and emphasized the need for physical contact. He stated, "If they said we would be four points ahead at this stage, it would be attractive for us."

Coach on the hunt for internal traitors

Okan Buruk vented his frustration regarding systemic internal leaks that have compromised the club even during European campaigns.

He acknowledged that some news naturally surfaces from within the club, but insisted the current situation is unsustainable. Buruk noted, "Some matches are predictable, I respect that. News can be received from inside. I respect that too."

However, the continuous leak of the starting eleven has forced him to take extreme precautions. This systemic breach led to a "completely unexpected" lineup against Goztepe.

The manager revealed a new strategy to withhold the starting roster during final training sessions to block opponent intelligence.

He said, "We will do this to prevent our opponents from knowing." Buruk delivered a blunt warning regarding those responsible for the security lapse. He stated, "We will find the traitors inside. There are traitors who harm Galatasaray!"

This internal friction suggests a deepening divide within the club hierarchy despite their four-point lead.

Osimhen eyes derby return

The Nigerian forward remains the focal point of the Galatasaray title charge.

Recovery from his injury against Liverpool is progressing faster than expected following successful surgery. Osimhen has now started individual running sessions away from the main group. Buruk provided a positive update on the star player's timeline, saying, "Victor Osimhen could be in the squad for the Genclerbirligi match if conditions are suitable," which is on April 18.

Medical staff might also delay his return until the high-stakes derby against Fenerbahce. A victory in that match would likely secure the trophy for the team.

Buruk also marked the night by mourning the death of Mircea Lucescu. He described the late coach as a legendary figure who left a deep mark on world football and noted that Lucescu made his final appearance in Türkiye.

He closed the briefing by celebrating the Galatasaray Daikin Women's Volleyball Team for their recent CEV Cup triumph.
