The third edition of the International Mediterranean Yacht Championship wrapped up in Marmaris, bringing together an expanded international fleet and confirming the coastal town’s growing role as a sailing hub.

Growing international turnout reflects rising profile

Organized by the Marmaris International Yacht Sports Club (MIYC), the championship drew 31 sailing yachts and around 300 athletes from Türkiye and several countries, including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Ukraine. The turnout marked a clear increase from the event’s first year, when it began with 16 boats, effectively doubling participation by its third edition.

Ahead of the final races, teams carried out training runs after departing from Netsel Marina, using the time to adjust to local conditions before competition began.

Light winds shape a shortened race program

Races were held across ORC classes—an international yacht racing classification system that groups boats based on performance factors—namely ORC-1, ORC-B, ORC-C, and ORC-D. Competitors set off on courses determined by head referee Ezgi Kalayci, who adjusted routes according to wind direction and strength.

However, low wind conditions inside the bay limited racing to a single contest in each class, meaning the championship concluded with a reduced schedule compared to initial plans.

MIYC President Bulent Celik underlined the steady growth of the event, noting that participation had doubled within three years. He emphasized the area’s natural advantages for sailing.

Winners crowned across ORC classes

The championship concluded with an award ceremony held in the club garden, where top-performing crews received their trophies.

  • ORC-A: Brozex (Sergei Musikhin), followed by Eker40 and Lagertha
  • ORC-B: Jason (Boris Burmentev), ahead of Courrier Du Coeur and Fox-L
  • ORC-C: Wizard (Pavel Karachov), followed by Valentina and Anyuta
  • ORC-D: Ivana (Mark Abdrakipov), with Blue X and Agile completing the podium
