Turkish grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus recorded a significant victory in Monte Carlo, defeating French grandmaster and 2021 World Blitz Champion Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in the internationally followed Clash of Generations series organized by the Monaco Chess Federation.

In the six-game classical match, Erdogmus defeated Vachier-Lagrave with a 3.5–2.5 score.

In its announcement, the federation stated: “Despite his young age, with his calmness, playing strength, and determination, our Grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus continues to represent our country at the highest level. We once again express our pride and congratulate our athlete.”

A record-breaking young career

Erdogmus’ earlier accomplishments continue to highlight the significance of his latest victory. He previously broke another major age record by surpassing the 2600 ELO rating threshold at 13—an achievement that set him apart even among prodigies. In doing so, he eclipsed the early career milestone of Norwegian world champion Magnus Carlsen, who crossed the 2600 mark at age 16 in 2007.
