Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen, who was transferred from Napoli for a record €75 million ($88.09 million), suffered an injury while playing for the Nigeria National Team against Rwanda. The 26-year-old forward, unable to continue the match, was immediately flown back to İstanbul on a private jet by his club.

Osimhen started in Nigeria’s lineup against Rwanda but had to leave the field after a challenge left him in visible pain. The incident sparked concern at Galatasaray, where the club moved quickly to monitor and treat their record signing.

Galatasaray arranged a private flight to bring Osimhen back to Türkiye as soon as possible. The forward arrived late at night and is expected to undergo an MRI scan to assess the severity of the injury.

Mind game?

A Nigerian team official revealed that although Osimhen would not play against South Africa, the squad had hoped for his presence.

“South Africa has been celebrating since it was confirmed Osimhen wouldn’t play. This was a psychological tactic to put pressure on the opponent,” the official said.

First statement from Osimhen

Despite the setback, Osimhen reassured fans about his condition. Speaking to Nigerian media outlet ThisDay, he stated, “The injury is not serious. I left the pitch as a precaution to prevent it from getting worse. I will come back stronger.”

Galatasaray’s medical team is expected to begin treatment immediately after completing all examinations. The club is particularly focused on ensuring Osimhen is fit in time for the upcoming Champions League clashes.
