Some 300 athletes from Türkiye, Georgia, Iran, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are competing in the 1st International Ordu Oksijen Judo Tournament, organized by the Turkish Judo Federation in the Black Sea coastal city of Ordu, northern Türkiye.
The tournament, taking place at the Baspehlivan Recep Kara Sports Hall in Ordu's Altinordu district, brings together nearly 300 judokas vying for medals across the two-day event.
Turkish Judo Federation President Sezer Huysuz told Anadolu Agency that Ordu is one of Türkiye's most significant cities for the sport of judo. He noted that an athlete from Ordu has previously won an Olympic medal, adding that the federation was pleased to host an international competition in a city known for its greenery and coastal scenery.
Huysuz said turnout for the event has been strong, with athletes from five countries competing for podium finishes. He said such tournaments give athletes valuable international experience.
"Our main goal is to organize a bigger and more comprehensive event next year," Huysuz said.
Huysuz thanked the Ordu Governor's Office, Ordu Metropolitan Municipality and the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports for their support in organizing the tournament.
The competition is scheduled to conclude tomorrow following the final round of matches.
