Colombian forward Jhon Duran said he chose to continue his season at Russian club Zenit after his Fenerbahce loan was terminated, explaining that meetings with club officials and players, along with the team’s targets, convinced him to make the move.

Duran said he had several alternatives before deciding and chose Zenit after discussions with club representatives and Colombian midfielder Wilmar Barrios. "I had different options, but after speaking with club representatives and Wilmar Barrios, I decided to transfer to Zenit," he said during his first interview at the club.

Zenit goals convince Duran

The 22-year-old striker joined the Russian side on loan from Saudi club Al Nassr in a deal that runs until June 30, 2026, includes a non-mandatory €35 million ($41.63 milion) purchase option, and sees Al Nassr cover his salary during the loan spell.

Duran added that the club’s plans influenced him directly, saying, "They explained Zenit’s goals to me. I was so impressed that I wanted to continue my career here. I am trying to choose the best path for myself and my family. I believe I will be successful and happy at Zenit."

Speaking about his objectives at Zenit, he said he aimed to lead the team in competitions and increase his scoring output. "Like every footballer, I always strive to be number one," Duran said. "I will do everything I can to carry the team to the championship and other cups."

Jhon Duran reaches 6th club at age 22

Despite his young age, Zenit marks Duran’s sixth club stop after Fenerbahce, following a period marked by inconsistent performances and discipline issues at some of his previous teams.

After making his early breakthrough with Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire, Duran transferred to English Premier League club Aston Villa and later joined Saudi club Al Nassr in early 2025 for an outstanding €77 million fee.

He then moved to Fenerbahce on loan from Al Nassr for the 2025–26 season, making 21 appearances and recording five goals and three assists.
