Türkiye's national football team delegation was delayed at passport control upon arriving in Belgium on Thursday ahead of the two countries' UEFA Nations League A match, according to a report from the Turkish media.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) delegation encountered difficulties with Belgian security personnel during passport checks at the airport, the outlet reported, causing officials and squad members to remain stranded in the arrivals area for an extended period.

Delay at passport control

Turkish media reporting from the scene, said the TFF delegation remained stuck at passport control. "Belgian security forces have created a problem there; that is causing a delay. Executives and the TFF delegation are still waiting at the airport right now," Genc said.

No further details were provided on the nature of the dispute with Belgian authorities or how long the delay lasted.

The holdup had knock-on effects for the team's media obligations. A pre-match press conference with head coach Vincenzo Montella, originally scheduled for 19:45, was pushed back as a result of the airport problem.

Türkiye will face Belgium on the road Friday at 21:45 in their third match of the UEFA Nations League A group stage. The team has lost its first two group matches, leaving it in need of a result to revive its campaign.
