Galatasaray is on the verge of completing one of the most sensational transfers in recent Super Lig history by securing the signing of Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane. The German international has reportedly rejected a contract extension with the Bundesliga champions and is set to join the Turkish giants on a free transfer.
According to Sky DE, the Istanbul-based club have reached a principle agreement with Sane, who is said to be enthusiastic about the move. Both Galatasaray and arch-rivals Fenerbahce had expressed interest in the 28-year-old star, but it appears that the yellow-reds have won the race.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the ongoing negotiations, stating:
"Talks are progressing well between the parties. Galatasaray are feeling very confident and optimistic about finalising the deal for the German star."
The move is expected to go through this summer, as Sane has reportedly decided not to renew his contract with Bayern and aims to leave the club without a transfer fee.
German newspaper Bild also claimed that Sane is "very close to signing with Galatasaray."
Sources suggest that discussions with Bayern Munich ended without resolution, and Sane is not planning to participate even in the Club World Cup later this year.
The financial details of the deal highlight Galatasaray’s ambition. According to The Athletic, Sane has agreed to a three-year contract with the Istanbul club, earning up to €15 million (nearly $17.2 million) per year in net salary.
Meanwhile, Foot Mercato reported a slightly different figure, stating that the agreement was reached for an annual salary of €11 million (over $12.6 million) over three seasons.
Leroy Sane played 45 matches across all competitions this season, scoring 13 goals and providing 6 assists. Despite a solid campaign, the German winger is now set to continue his career in Türkiye's top flight.
