Italian Serie A club Napoli has reportedly identified former Türkiye national team coach Vincenzo Montella as a potential replacement for Massimiliano Allegri, whose future could depend on the outcome of next week's match against Roma.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Napoli is considering bringing in Montella if the club decides to part ways with Allegri, raising the possibility of the Italian manager returning to club football following his departure from Türkiye's national team.
Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Napoli's management would evaluate Allegri's position following the upcoming Serie A encounter against Roma, with a defeat potentially leading to his dismissal.
Montella has emerged as a possible successor, although the reports describe him as a candidate rather than confirming any agreement between the coach and Napoli.
The 52-year-old Italian parted ways with Türkiye after the national team failed to advance beyond the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup and suffered four consecutive defeats in UEFA Nations League A, the competition's top division.
During his time in charge, Montella oversaw 40 matches, recording 21 victories, five draws and 14 defeats, with an average of 1.70 points per game.
Türkiye is now searching for a new national team coach, while Montella's next move could depend on developments at Napoli as the Italian club prepares to face Roma.
